Guest Lectures

Professional Practice and Case Studies (Ed Tlegenov from AutoDesk)

We had the pleasure to have two lectures from Ed, who is a Principal Research Manager at Autodesk Research and is part of the Digital Transformation team of Manufacturing Industry Futures. is focused on automating manufacturing systems and processes using Digital Twins, IoT platforms, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Artificial Intelligence to create innovative solutions for industry through applied research.

Both of the lectures were focused on how to abbly for an intership/job in a big tech company and what is asked in order to become part of the team.

Talked about the Resume, and that the most challenging part is getting the resume seen by someone, because before it goes thorugh a scanning process that, if it doesn’t have few characteristics it is automatically rejected. In order to go torugh the scanning it is

  • preferred to be in a docx format
  • readable from top to botton or left to right
  • including the right words

Than another point he talked about is the importance of LinkedIn, and how it is actually powerfull tool for networking. A good profile has to

  • have a personalized URL
  • post and comment regularly
  • be completed at 100%

Last thing we did in the first lecture was the case study about Youtube VR. we had to analize every aspect to design it. this is the final result from the lecture

I found it really interesting, personally my favourite guest, extremly professional and prepared, gave clear examples of how big tech companies work and think. Made me open my eyes a bit more with the case study, since when I design my CR experiences I never take into consideration whats behind the actual project it if becomes public. I is a really complex process that I will study more in detail in the future to make powerful and easy to access experiences.

Professional Practice and Case Studies (Eloise Skinner from One Perfect Day)

Eloise is an Author, teacher, who devotes her life to helping people find meaning, purpose and direction. Founder of two businesses: The Purpose Workshop and One Typical Day. With us she mainly focused on One Typical Day, a tech-based solution for an industry ready for transformation as she describes it.

after her lecture I’ve gave a look to this ted talk she held at cambridge university, where she graduated in law. I found it really motivating, the way she explains all her journey and background that lead her to her currently career and mindset. I think that this lecture was really helpful, even if it wasn’t related to VR it is related to what we are currently living as students in one of our most important period of life, where we are trying to be curious, study what it is in our interest and trying to make it our furure job. This of course is a really delicate where we can easy get distracted and loose our main purpose and she gives three main lessons to look for purpose.

Dance, Performing Arts and Tech (Antoine Marc

Antoine produces and directs film merging motion captiure with film, life performance with Arts & Movements Ltd around the world. I found his work really creative, In particularlt I really appreciated the lide performace in collaboration with Swatch, where the balllerina was surrounded by this technological and interactive environment. As I find well motion capture intriguing and kinda fun, I’ve had the opportunity to try at LCC for my character design project and I had loads of fun, but at the same time it has to be precise and I also reuires a lot of post processing.
